WHEATEN AND BLUE WHEATEN AMERAUCANAS
Our newest breed. We are very excited to be starting our own line of Ameraucanas. 2016 will mark our FIRST year hatching them. We are breeding to the APA (American Poultry Association) SOP (Standard of Perfection), but I'm sure we have a ways to go. Our goal is to raise beautiful, SOP Ameraucanas. Ameraucanas are a beautiful, blue-egg laying breed, admitted to the APA in 1984, in the class of chickens, "All Other Standards Breeds (AOSB)". They must have a pea comb, expressive eyes (some say they look like a hawk), small wattles, small earlobes, slate-colored legs, muffs (NOT tufts) and beards. They are sometimes compared to or confused with the Araucana and Easter Egger (another term given to them by large hatcheries is 'Americana' - note the spelling). The Araucana and Ameraucana are recognized by the APA, while the Easter Egger (EE) is a mixed chicken, and not technically a "breed", because it does not conform to any one standard, or breed true more than 50% of the time. It is generally an Ameraucana crossed chicken. The Ameraucana comes in a large and bantam variety. There are 8 officially recognized colors by the APA: Blue, Black, Blue Wheaten, Wheaten, Brown Red, Buff, Silver, and White. We currently do not ship eggs, but will post on our FB page if we do. We will have chicks available from time to time, but our goal is not to sell, but to improve. Chicks will be posted in our FB page as well. Thanks for any interest. - Feather Tree Farm |
